Guildford
(appx 5 miles)
Guildford - the County
Town of Surrey is a few minutes drive away. Guildford
is on the original road from London to the Naval Dockyards at Portsmouth on
the
South Coast. Now the ancient High Street is fully pedestrianised, and has a
huge
number of Shops Pubs and Restaurants. Do not miss a trip to this old town.
Royal
Horticultural Society Gardens -- Wisley Gardens (appx 3 miles)
Almost certainly the most important gardens and scientific research center in
the United Kingdom.
It will take a good two days to see everthing in this huge garden complex.
Brookwood
Motor and Aviation Museum.
(appx 5 miles)
Some fabulous old Cars, Motrocycles and Aircraft, the latest addition being
one of the fabulous
Concorde Supersonic transport aircraft. Much to be seen here.
Clandon
House (appx 3 miles)
Built around 1730 this fine house is full of beautiful furniture, paintings,
fabrics and fully marbled room.
There are also some very intersting gardens including grotto. This house belongs
to the National Trust,
which is an organisation which preserves thousands of National treasures donated
or loaned. On the
Clandon House web pages are links to several other great places to visit which
are close by.
Hampton
Court Palace (appx 10 miles)
This fantastic series of buildings is open to the public year round. Surrounded
by Bushey Park, you can
extend your visit walking to Kingston through the park or along the river Thames.
Kingston is a very fine
shopping and entertainment centre. You can also travel by river from here downstream
to and through
Kingston and upstream to Windsor Castle but check for timings etc.. A look at
the web pages tell you
all there is to know from around 1514 to 1986 the year of the great fire. Their
web page provide links
to some other great buildings in and around London.
Windsor
Castle (appx 15 miles)
The Queens official residence and the largest occupied Castle in the World and
remains a working castle
to this day. The queen is regularly in attendance - look for the Royal
Standard - only flown when the Queen
is in residence, in fact wherever she is in residence. Much to see here, but
look at the web page for details
and links to still more fabulous places in the UK.
Horse Racing
We are close to several Race Courses the closest being Royal Ascot, but Epsom,
Sandown and Kempton are all about
a half hours drive away.

Local walks
and Pubs
A few minutes walk from Vanni takes you to the River Wey which is also navigable
by narrow boats, up to
Guildford and beyond and downstream to the Thames and the rest of the UK's navigable
rivers and canals.
The walks along the river banks to Guildford or to Pyrford through the meadows
are amazing. Hard to believe
you are only a few miles from the center of London. On the river about half
a mile away is the New Inn a fine
old Public House with seating down the banks of the Canal. Good Food and a selection
of real ales available.
Eating

takeaway outlets within a half to 3 miles of Vanni
